Privacy policy

In short
- We don’t collect, store or share any of your personal data.
- Your highlights, notes, bookmarks and reading history stay on your device. We never see them.
- No account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- The app goes online only to download Bible content, such as translations, study notes and paintings.
Who we are
Rejoice Bible is made by Rejoice Ministries in the United Kingdom. It is available as an app for Android, Windows and Mac, and as a web app at app.rejoice.bible. This policy covers all of them, and this website.
What the app stores, and where
The app keeps everything in its own storage on your device:
- What you create: your highlights, underlines, notes and bookmarks.
- Where you are: your reading position and the chapters you have read recently.
- Your settings: colours, fonts, text size, dark mode and reading preferences.
- Downloaded content: the translations, study notes, stories and paintings you download, so they work offline.
On Android this is the app’s private storage, which other apps can’t read. On Windows and Mac it is a folder in your user account. In the web app, everything is kept in your browser’s storage for this site.
We have no account system and no database of users. Nothing you create is sent to us or to anyone else.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics or crash reporting, and no tracking of any kind. It contains no third-party code that collects data.
When the app goes online
The app connects to the internet only to download Bible content:
| What | From |
|---|---|
| The list of translations, the translations themselves, study notes, cross-references and the Hebrew and Greek texts | fetch.bible, a free service for openly licensed Bibles |
| Stories, paintings and Rejoice’s own collection | Our content storage, hosted by Microsoft Azure |
| The web app itself | Cloudflare, which hosts app.rejoice.bible |
| The Windows and Mac installers, when you download them from this website | Our content storage, hosted by Microsoft Azure |
These requests ask for content only. They carry no account, no identifier and nothing you have written. As with any download, the server that answers sees your device’s IP address and basic technical details (such as the browser or app version) in order to send the content back. We don’t use these to identify you.
You can stop pictures from downloading at all: turn off Pictures in Settings → Reading.
When data leaves your device because you choose
- Sharing. When you share a verse, your device’s share menu sends the link or text wherever you pick. That service’s own privacy policy then applies. We never receive a copy.
- Backup. Settings → Storage → Save a backup saves your marks and reading history to a file you choose. Restoring reads only the file you pick, on your device. Backup files are not encrypted, so keep them somewhere private.
- Android backup. If you have turned on your phone’s own backup to your Google account, Android may include the app’s data in it. That backup belongs to you and is handled by Google; we can’t see it.
Permissions
The Android app asks for internet access and to check the network state, which it needs to download content and to know when you are offline. It asks for nothing else: no location, contacts, camera, microphone or notifications. The Windows and Mac apps ask for no permissions.
Deleting your data
You can remove marks and notes in the app, and remove downloaded Bibles and study notes in Settings → Storage. Uninstalling the Android app removes everything it stored on your phone. Uninstalling on Windows asks whether to remove your notes and downloaded Bibles too. On a Mac, moving the app to the Bin leaves its data: also remove the folders named com.rejoiceministries.bible in your Library folder. In the web app, clearing this site’s data in your browser removes everything. Backup files you saved yourself stay wherever you put them, so delete those separately if you want to.
Children
The app is not aimed at children under 13. It collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking, and loads nothing from other companies. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes basic technical information such as your IP address to deliver the pages and protect against attacks, as any web host does. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you and to have it corrected or deleted. Because the app collects no data, we normally hold none; the only exception is an email you send us, which we use only to reply and delete when the conversation is finished. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If we add a feature that changes how data is handled (for example, optional sync to your own cloud storage), we will update this policy before that feature is released and change the date at the top of this page.
